about me

01 / THE BUILDER

I like making software you can reach out and touch.

I’m Aranya, a second-year CSE student at VIT Pune. I’m drawn to the little details that make an experience feel real: a camera that moves just right, a gesture that registers instantly, or a sensor that turns a physical motion into play. I often rebuild a small version from scratch to understand what’s happening under the hood.

03 / HOW I THINK

Things building has taught me

↳

Understand the black box. I like rebuilding a small version of a system once, just to see how the pieces work.

↳

Feel matters. My gesture game taught me that smoothing noisy input can matter more than tracking every raw movement.

↳

Make it tangible. A quick playable prototype or sensor demo teaches me more than an idea left on paper.

Gesture Fruit Ninja gameplay preview
01 / CASE STUDY · COMPUTER VISION

Gesture Fruit Ninja

a real-time fruit ninja remake in python where your hands act as blades in front of your webcam — no keyboard, mouse, or controller.

pythonopencvmediapipepygamereal-time tracking

the idea

recreating fruit ninja's tactile slicing mechanic using computer vision. rather than clicking and dragging with a mouse, the player slices through oncoming fruits purely with natural hand slashes captured by a standard 30fps webcam.

how i built it

the pipeline runs frame-by-frame: opencv pulls the video feed, mediapipe hands extracts 21 3D landmark coordinates, and the index fingertip position is translated into in-game slicing vectors inside a pygame loop with custom gravity and fruit physics.

the tricky part

fast hand slashes caused tracking skips between frames, making the blade "jump" past fruits without registering hits. i resolved this by keeping a rolling trail of coordinates and performing continuous line-segment intersection checks against fruit hitboxes instead of static point checks.

what i learned

game feel in gesture input is entirely about forgiveness and latency. small mathematical dampening on landmark jitter and extending the blade hit-window by just 2 frames turned a frustrating experience into something that felt instant and satisfying.

AI Educational Vernacular Chatbot interface
02 / CASE STUDY · FULL-STACK & AI

AI Educational Vernacular Chatbot

an interactive multilingual learning companion breaking regional language barriers for students across 9+ indian vernacular languages.

typescriptreactgemini api9+ languagescbse / state board

the idea

many students in regional schools struggle when technical and scientific concepts are taught strictly in english. the goal was to build a localized tutor that explains complex curriculum topics naturally in their mother tongue.

how i built it

built with react and typescript, featuring dual-persona switching (friendly peer vs. structured tutor). queries are bound to specific grade-level syllabi and routed to google's gemini api with customized system instructions for vernacular terminology.

the tricky part

direct literal machine translations often corrupted mathematical symbols and scientific terminology (e.g., hindi or marathi explanations losing formulas). i engineered prompt guards to enforce code-mixed explanations (Hinglish/Marathi-English) so formulas remain pristine while explanations stay conversational.

what i learned

evaluating llm outputs for non-english languages requires contextual cultural grounding, not just translation accuracy. latency also heavily impacts trust in educational tools, so streaming responses was essential.

03 / CASE STUDY · GAME ENGINE & SPATIAL VR

VR Horror Experience

a tension-driven virtual reality escape sequence engineered in unity and c# for vit pune's annual college tech fest.

unityc#meta questspatial 3d audiolighting physics

the idea

designing a compact, sensory-rich horror game capable of running seamlessly on stand-alone vr headsets with an emphasis on spatial immersion rather than cheap visual jumpscares.

how i built it

developed in unity using c# scripting. implemented binaural audio raycasts that calculate distance falloff and wall occlusions, realistic flashlight cone physics, and trigger-based entity state machines.

the tricky part

preventing motion sickness in a claustrophobic indoor map without sacrificing tension. continuous smooth locomotion caused disorientation for casual festival attendees, so we engineered smooth snap-turning, vignette FOV tunneling during bursts of movement, and calibrated physical hand interactions.

what i learned

in vr, audio does 70% of the world-building work. players reacted far more intensely to subtle footstep delays and directional creaks behind them than to high-poly models in plain sight.
